Eight people were killed when a charter aircraft crashed near a remote military radar facility in western Alaska, the US military’s Alaskan Command said.
The Cessna 441 was on a flight for Anchorage-based air charter company Security Aviation when it crashed around 12:15 p.m. Thursday about 12 miles west of Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane had taken off from Anchorage International Airport, heading to Cape Newenham, an FAA spokesperson said.
The Cape Newenham facility is one of a number of remote radar installations used to monitor aircraft in Alaskan airspace and along the state’s borders.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash.
