Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode has defended women who desire marriage, saying the wish to become a wife should not be interpreted as desperation or a sign that a woman lacks purpose.
The actress shared her thoughts on Instagram while discussing the different choices women make regarding relationships and personal fulfilment.
Olayode said women who choose to remain single should be free to make that decision without criticism. She added that women who want marriage should equally be allowed to pursue it without being subjected to negative labels.
According to her, a woman’s interest in marriage does not diminish her career, accomplishments or ambitions.
“Wanting to get married is not a personality disorder,” she said.

The actress acknowledged that marriage can come with difficulties and that some relationships eventually fail. Despite this, she noted that many people still consider marriage a beautiful union and genuinely desire to experience it.
Olayode recalled a conversation she overheard at a salon involving women who were criticising another woman for saying she wanted to get married.
She said she participated in the discussion and later found the situation amusing after remembering a “BRIDE” swimsuit given to her by a friend in 2024.
The actress emphasised that women have different aspirations and should not be forced into a single definition of fulfilment.
She said these aspirations can include faith, purpose, career, financial stability, friendship, family and marriage.
Olayode ended her message by wishing women seeking marriage the opportunity to find good partners and build fulfilling unions.
She also celebrated love and marriage, concluding her message with, “Up Love! Up Marriage!”
