2027: Former Councillors Abandon Abdullahi Gwarzo, Rally Behind Dankabo

Former councillors and political office holders in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State have abandoned the political camp of Abdullahi T. Gwarzo and declared support for Hon. Fahad Muhammad Dankabo ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former political office holders announced their decision during a strategic meeting with Dankabo and leaders of the Association of Former Political Office Holders in Gwarzo at the weekend.

The group, comprising former councillors and grassroots politicians, formally pledged allegiance to Dankabo’s political movement in what observers described as a significant realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

They also declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on behalf of the group, its chairman, Malam Ubale Mahmoud, said Dankabo had initiated a new political movement designed to broaden participation and attract more stakeholders into the political process.

Mahmoud described the movement as a transition “from darkness to light,” adding that Dankabo’s continued engagement with political stakeholders was fostering unity, cooperation and mutual understanding within the area.

He expressed optimism that the new political direction would create opportunities for stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the development of Gwarzo and the wider Kabo Federal Constituency.

According to him, the decision to join Dankabo’s political movement was driven by the desire to strengthen grassroots participation and promote a common development agenda.

Dankabo Welcomes Political Realignment

Responding, Dankabo expressed appreciation to the former councillors and political office holders for the confidence they had placed in his leadership.

He described their declaration of support as a significant boost to his political movement and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive engagement and effective representation.

Dankabo emphasised the importance of unity, mutual understanding and collective responsibility in advancing political development and addressing the concerns of constituents.

He further stressed that all stakeholders must be carried along in the political process, noting that broader consultations and sustained engagement with residents were essential to achieving meaningful community development.

The latest development comes as political actors and grassroots groups across Kano State begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
