2027: Kano NDC Candidate Questions INEC Over Missing Names on Governorship List

The New Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has demanded an explanation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of his name and that of his running mate from the list of candidates for the 2027 election.

Gwarzo raised the issue during an interview on Arise News, claiming that INEC published its candidate list on October 10 without including their names, despite their alleged compliance with electoral requirements.

He said the commission neither informed them of any problem with their candidacy nor explained the reason for their exclusion.

The NDC candidate also questioned a Federal High Court order issued on October 27, directing INEC not to publish their names. According to Gwarzo, their names had already been omitted from the list before the court issued the order.

“My question is why our names were omitted in the first place, before the court order was issued, and why we were not informed if an injunction had been filed,” he said.

Gwarzo further alleged that interests outside the electoral process might have influenced the commission’s decision, suggesting there could have been an understanding between INEC and other parties.

He called on the electoral body to clarify why he and his running mate were excluded before the court directive was issued.

The dispute adds another dimension to preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Kano, with the NDC candidate seeking answers over the handling of his party’s ticket. INEC’s response to the allegations was not included in the report.
