I am delighted to publicly declare my full support for the re-election of Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese, fondly known as Okanga K’Agila, as Member representing Ado, Ogbadibo, and Okpokwu Federal Constituency in 2027—by the special grace of God.

As a proud son of the Owukpa community in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, I am overjoyed by the inclusion of numerous developmental projects for Owukpa in the 2025 federal budget. These projects, set to commence soon, are a clear demonstration of Hon. Agbese’s commitment to the grassroots. While his two years in office have yielded visible and commendable progress, I objectively rate his performance at 60%—a score that shows both appreciation for his achievements and room for even greater impact.

Having previously contested for the same seat in the 2023 election, I have observed Hon. Agbese’s leadership up close. I must admit that he has surpassed expectations, and I doubt I could have done better in his position. His youthfulness and dynamic approach to governance are a breath of fresh air—an indication that it’s time to entrust leadership to the younger generation.

Respecting the Spirit of Zoning

From 1999 to 2023, our federal constituency has operated an informal zoning arrangement in which each local government takes a turn at the National Assembly for two terms. Ado had its turns in 1999–2003 and 2019–2023; Okpokwu from 2003–2011; and Ogbadibo from 2011–2019. My decision to contest in 2023 was premised on this rotational understanding, arguing that Ado had completed its share—albeit split into two.

It’s worth noting that no local government has ever voluntarily relinquished power after completing its two terms. In fact, attempts by Okpokwu and Ogbadibo to secure a third term in 2011 and 2019, respectively, were defeated through electoral processes. Ado Local Government, despite dividing its tenure, has technically fulfilled its two-term quota.

In 2022, after several high-level stakeholder meetings, leaders across the constituency convened in Okpoga and reached a gentleman’s agreement known as The Okpoga Accord 2022. It was resolved that all three local governments would be free to contest, with the understanding that zoning would recommence from the winner’s local government. That election saw all three LGAs participate under different platforms—PDP (Ogbadibo), Labour (Okpokwu), and APC (Ado). Ado emerged victorious.

Why Agbese Deserves a Second Term

In line with the Okpoga Accord and the principles of fairness, Ado should be allowed to complete a second term. Unless a new consensus emerges that every LGA should now serve only one term—a proposal I find unfeasible—Hon. Agbese’s mandate should be respected and renewed.

Though some individuals have approached me to run against him in 2027, I remain steadfast in my belief that leadership is divinely ordained. As I always say, “A man can receive nothing except it is given to him from above.” My focus now is on supporting Hon. Agbese to finish strong, while I continue to prepare myself for greater responsibilities in the future.

His blueprint is clear. The 2025 budget reflects his inclusive vision, with impactful projects planned across all 35 wards. I pray for his continued success and offer him my full, undivided support as he seeks re-election.

Let’s give the younger generation a fair chance to lead and transform our society for good. I am 100% behind Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese—OKANGA 2027 is a movement whose time has come.

Oche Sunday Oche, affirming that the true will of the people had finally prevailed.

The Senior Pastor of Word of Power Gospel Church International, Apostle Festus Alilu, has publicly apologized to Pastor Korede Komaiya of The Master’s International Church, Warri, Delta State.

This follows a recent defamatory comment made by Apostle Alilu against Pastor Komaiya via a video on his social media page, a move that sparked reactions from various quarters.

Consequently, some supporters of Pastor Komaiya reported the case to the police, leading to Apostle Alilu’s arrest and detention.

However, in a formal apology letter dated March 23, 2025, Apostle Alilu stated that he had removed the controversial video from his Facebook page and had also uploaded a new video apologizing for his actions.

He admitted that his comments were inappropriate and had negatively affected Pastor Komaiya’s reputation.

He wrote, “I write to express my sincere and unreserved apologies for a video I posted on my Facebook page on the 8th day of March 2025, where I criticized your style of preaching.

“I regret all the offensive content of the video and the negative effects on your reputation, congregation, and the entire body of Christ.

“I have removed the video from my Facebook page, and I have also posted an apology video on the same platform.

“I humbly request your forgiveness and understanding on this matter so we can put it behind us and focus on our shared commitment to spreading the Gospel.”

Reacting to the apology, the Concerned Christian Youth Forum described the move as a welcome development.

The group, in a statement by its convener, Adama James Paul, applauded the reconciliation and urged others to follow suit.

“We believe that the Christian faith and its leaders should be respected and protected against defamation and cyberbullying.

“Do NOT defame or tarnish the reputation of anyone while criticizing their actions. Remember, you are only sharing your perception or opinion, and this must be done within the confines of the law.

“A criminal offense isn’t just against the victim but against the entire state. So do not come up with lame excuses that the victim is a Christian or Pastor and ought to have forgiven.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Sunday warned the Federal Government to brace up for mass protests if the proposed electricity tariff hike goes forward.

In a communique issued at the end of its National Executive Council ( NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the union described the planned increase as “economic violence against the working class and broader Nigerian populace.

The NLC vowed to mobilize workers and citizens for nationwide resistance.

This threat didn’t come from the NLC alone. The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) also condemned the move and accused the government of making Nigerians “pay for darkness” without any real improvement in power supply.

The NLC expressed outrage at what it called a “sham reclassification” of electricity consumers by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

According to the union, this reclassification is a thinly veiled attempt to push more Nigerians into higher tariff bands under the guise of service improvement — a move that would only deepen economic hardship.

“The ruling elite, acting as enforcers of global monopoly capital, are determined to further deepen the misery of the Nigerian people through incessant tariff hikes, increased taxation, and relentless economic strangulation,” the statement read.

The union’s resolution was clear and uncompromising: any attempt to impose additional electricity tariffs would be met with mass resistance. It directed the National Administrative Council to begin immediate mobilization for protests, warning the government not to test the patience of the Nigerian people.

But electricity tariffs aren’t the only issue fueling this unrest.

The NLC also voiced concern over the recent 35% increase in telecommunications tariffs.

Although the union acknowledged an agreement with the government to reduce the initial proposed hike from 50% to 35%, it remained skeptical about whether the government would keep its word.

It warned that if the new telecom tariffs — set to take effect on March 1, 2025 — are implemented contrary to agreed terms, the NLC would take decisive action.

“The Nigerian worker should not bear the brunt of corporate and government inefficiencies,” the NLC emphasized.

Support for the NLC’s stance is strong among electricity workers. The NUEE has also rejected the consumer reclassification, calling it an exploitative agenda designed to squeeze more money from Nigerians without improving service delivery.

In a statement by its acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, the NUEE criticized the government’s approach, saying the real issue isn’t tariffs — it’s the failure of the power sector to deliver reliable electricity.

“We asked some salient questions: Who are the Band A consumers? Who bears the brunt of the electricity hike? The general public will be most affected. They are the customers and end-users, and the additional costs will ultimately be passed down to them, worsening their already dire economic situation,” the union stated.

Rather than focusing on tariff reviews, the NUEE argued, the government should prioritize improving power supply and addressing the sector’s longstanding inefficiencies.

According to Obi, democracy cannot thrive if it fails to address the fundamental needs of the population. He called for a focus on governance that prioritizes the welfare of the people, rather than the political ambitions of a select few.

During his address, Obi also praised Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his commitment to democratic values. At the conference, Obi urged Nigerian leaders to go beyond ceremonial elections and work toward building strong institutions that foster good governance, accountability, and justice. “Democracy must address the needs of Nigerians. We must build institutions that uphold accountability and fairness,” Obi concluded. His remarks reflect a call for a greater focus on governance and development, rather than political maneuvering for the sake of power.

This marks a clear distinction in Obi’s political philosophy, which aligns more with a vision of democratic progress and institutional reform than with any specific political alliance.
