The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has accused Peter Obi of not being interested in the party’s policy positions during his short-lived membership, saying he was only interested in getting the party’s ticket for the presidential race.

Abdullahi disclosed this on Monday during an appearance on Arise News’ Prime Time programme, the same appearance where he had earlier described Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s exit from the ADC as a setback but not a death blow.

Abdullahi said the party had spent months drafting a manifesto with clear policy positions, but Obi had never participated in the process.

“You can also invite His Excellency Peter Obi and ask him, what is the ADC position on fuel subsidy? What is the ADC’s security framework? He doesn’t know, he’s never been interested. “They are just waiting for the tickets to be handed to them,” he said.

He said members of the ADC fall into three broad categories; those using the party as a mere platform to contest elections, those committed to ending what they described as the misgovernance of the ruling All Progressives Congress and those genuinely interested in building a real political party anchored on policy.

Abdullahi seemed to put Obi in the first category, contrasting his conduct with the party’s expectations.

“If you say you want to contest election and you believe in the country, in changing the country, you should know what your party stands for,” he said.

When asked if the ADC can form a credible opposition coalition for 2027, Abdullahi was optimistic.

“No, no, no, certainly. Maybe it’s a setback but it’s a temporary setback. We are re-calibrating. We are coming back stronger. Has it hurt our chances, the possibility of a three horse race? Maybe. Mortally? “No,” he said.

Also dismissed were reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had emerged the leading contender for the ADC’s presidential ticket following the exodus.

“This party ADC is not going to be an SPV for anybody,” he said, adding that the race was still on for former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

Obi and Kwankwaso both joined the ADC in March 2026, as part of a wider opposition coalition to contest the APC in the 2027 general elections.

The two men resigned from the party on Sunday citing internal crises, court cases, and what they called deliberate attempts to frustrate their participation in the electoral process.

Since then they have joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress where they have campaigned for an end to litigation-driven politics.

Obi had said his decision to leave was not motivated by personal ambition but by the need to rescue Nigeria, describing the pattern of internal crises as one he had also encountered in the Labour Party.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it is ready for a lengthy legal battle in its ongoing court cases over the party’s leadership tussle.

This was stated on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

Abdullahi was reacting to Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling which he described as a victory for the party.

“The ADC will celebrate its legal victory but will not lose focus,” the spokesperson said. “This is far from over.”

“You can celebrate a battle when you are fighting a war,” he said. You win a battle and you celebrate it well. That does not mean the war is over. This is going to be a long war, we’re prepared for a long war, and we’ve shown that we’re capable of fighting this war, and that’s what brought us to this point.

“This particular battle, we won that yesterday and we are not going to allow anyone to minimise the importance of what we have achieved. “We want our members to enjoy that victory of that particular battle, but the war is still on and we are not going to lose focus that it is a marathon, so we are going to keep fighting.”

He said, “The ADC accepts the rulings of the Supreme Court and is ready to return to the Federal High Court as directed by the apex court.

He praised the justices for what he called the thoroughness of their submissions.

“Anyone who has sat through the proceedings and heard the submissions of the justices would acknowledge the thoroughness of their work,” he said.

The party is still confident of its case at the federal high court, he said.

“In the case that let’s go back to the high court, we are very confident that we have a very clear case, and the issue is about leadership,” Bolaji stated. “It is very clear and established that everything that has to do with the leadership of a political party is not justiciable.”

The ADC chieftain said the party was confident in the legal system but would continue to pursue all lawful avenues where it felt it had been treated unfairly.

“Where we find that we have been treated unfairly in accordance with the law, we are going to explore opportunities to seek redress, and we will continue to do so like we have in this case up to the highest court of the land,” he said. That’s what the laws are for.

“If a judge rules against us in court and we are not happy, we go to the next level until God says it is okay because after the Supreme Court, there is no next level.”

Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has designated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a criminal organization.

According to reports, Abdullahi’s comments come after INEC decided to remove David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola’s identities as the ADC’s national chairman and national secretary from its official website.

The commission also said that it would not recognize Nafiu Bala, who is pursuing legal action to be named national chairman, and that recognition of all party divisions would be suspended until a substantive matter before the Federal High Court was resolved.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Abdullahi responded to the situation by accusing INEC of breaking the law and picking sides in the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

Abdullahi maintained that Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former party official, had no legal authority to act on behalf of the party after his resignation and the dissolution of the executive committee he was a member of.

As the next highest body following the convention, he insisted that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had already made decisions that affected the party’s leadership structure.

Abdullahi also charged INEC with acting like a criminal organization and contempt of court.

He stated, “INEC was aware that he was no longer a party official as of July 17. He has no location, as I mentioned earlier.

“The NEC is the next most senior organ of the party, after the convention, and it has been established in court that the subject of leadership is entirely an internal business of the political parties.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, has been charged by the presidency for trying to distort the truth on Nigeria’s security situation.

Dada Olusegun, President Bola Tinubu’s Social Media Special Assistant, insisted that President Tinubu had accomplished more in his two years in government than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which Abdullahi was a minister under, accomplished in its sixteen years in power.
