Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar explained why he visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo, indicating it was not connected to the 2027 elections.

Atiku held a closed-door meeting with his former principal, Obasanjo, on Monday in his Abeokuta residence, located within the precinct of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), the Ogun State capital.

Atiku, who arrived at Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence at exactly 12:37 p.m., was accompanied by the former governors of Sokoto and Cross Rivers State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, Senator Liyel Imoke and the Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ahmed Ningi among other eminent political bigwigs from the Northern region.

Upon arrival, Atiku and members of his entourage were received at Obasanjo’s residence by the elder statesman, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe. They then went straight upstairs to a private meeting with his former boss, Obasanjo, who had been waiting for his visitors.

Emerging after the two-hour meeting, Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declined to comment about his next political move in 2027.

Emphasising that he was not in Abeokuta to see Obasanjo because of the 2027 election, Atiku told inquisitive journalists that he would not talk about politics or the 2027 general election.

“It is a courtesy visit. I am not going to talk about 2027 or politics. I am not here because of 2027,” the former Vice President declared.
