The development was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the M.A. Strategy Committee, which was signed by its Head of Media, Umar Ibrahim Sade, a former Commissioner for Information.

No reason was given by the committee for the decision, but all affected coordinators were directed to immediately stop operations in their respective local government areas pending further directives.

The statement also said they are ordered to submit to the secretariat of the committee on or before July 16, 2026 all campaign materials, documents and other items in their possession.

The committee applauded the coordinators, ward mobilisers and volunteers for their contributions to the political movement, saying their efforts in all the 323 wards of Bauchi State were invaluable.

The party assured supporters that a new round of political engagements would soon be unveiled. Details of the next line of action would be communicated at the opportune time.

The committee also urged the members and supporters of the party to remain calm, and united and committed to Abubakar’s governorship ambition.

Recall that the State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is mired in internal crisis following its 2027 primaries, with aggrieved members alleging that candidates were imposed and not elected through direct primaries.

Some political groups have also accused the Coordinating Minister for Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate and former Governor Isa Yuguda of supporting the emergence of former Governor, Mohammed Abubakar as the party’s governorship candidate.

The former Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar lost his re-election bid in 2019 to the incumbent Governor, Bala Mohammed.

Ningi was said to have tendered his resignation through a letter to the PDP Chairman of Ningi Ward in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The decision, he said, was taken after wide consultations with stakeholders, associates and supporters. Ningi, who joined the PDP in 1998, had spent over 20 years in the party.

He was a two-term House of Representatives member and two-term senator on the party’s platform.

The lawmaker described the PDP as “once the largest political party in Africa”, and said it was once known for strong ideology, unity and democratic values, which enabled participatory governance.

The party’s internal leadership crisis, factional divisions and competing interests, Ningi said, had weakened the party’s unity and structure.

“It is now a great concern and worrisome to me that this virile and united platform could be turned into a ramshackle organisation with internal leadership wrangling and factional interests,” he wrote.

The senator said that leaving PDP was one of the hardest decisions of his political career. The party had given him the opportunity to serve his constituency and the country with distinction, he said.

The legislator thanked the leaders of the PDP at all levels for their support to his political career over the years.

“As I pursue my political career outside the People’s Democratic Party, please accept my best regards,” he added.
