Rabi Umar, the chief judge of Bauchi State, swore in recently appointed Sharia Court justices and charged them with administering justice with honesty, objectivity, and a strong sense of accountability.

On Wednesday, the oath-taking ceremony took place at the High Court No. 1 location in Bauchi.

The judiciary is still the last hope for the average person, according to Justice Umar, who urged judges to carry out their duty without fear or favor.

Umar also emphasized the importance of justice, thoroughness, and strict respect to the law, pointing out that judicial officials’ actions have a significant impact on the public’s confidence in the judiciary.

She warned the judges not to issue orders outside of their jurisdiction, especially ones that prevent security agencies from doing their legal obligations.

She issued a warning that any misbehavior would not be accepted.

The Chief Judge emphasized the significance of lifelong learning, moral conduct, and professionalism.

She asked the judges to defend the trust placed in them after a thorough selection procedure.

The recently appointed judges are anticipated to deal with a variety of civil cases, according to Umar.

“They will strengthen justice delivery at the grassroots level by handling disputes pertaining to land, family, and commercial issues within their jurisdictions,” she stated.

Additionally, the CJ praised the Judicial Service Commission and the appointment committee members for their dedication and openness during the selection process.

The appointees thanked Mr. Muhammad Salihu for the chance to serve on their behalf.

Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, has refused to form a seven-person panel to look into claims of egregious misconduct against Governor Sim Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.

Justice Amadi cited two court orders prohibiting him from receiving, sending, or considering any petitions to constitute such a panel in a letter dated January 20, 2026, to Martins Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The directives, which were delivered to his office on January 16, 2026, are still in effect.

Regardless of their opinion of the validity of existing court orders, the Chief Judge stressed that constitutionalism and the rule of law compel all authorities to abide by them.

The impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, will proceed as scheduled, the Rivers State House of Assembly announced on Friday.

At the resumed plenary on Friday, the parliamentarians unanimously decided to look into the claims of egregious misbehavior against Fubara and his deputy.

They concurred that the accusations made against them need to move on to the following stage of inquiry.

According to reports, Speaker Martins Amaewhule presided over the meeting.

In accordance with the resolution, the legislators demanded that the state’s chief judge form a commission to look into the claims of egregious misconduct made against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Amaewhule said, “This voting clearly shows the decision of the House,” and he urged the state’s chief judge to form an investigative panel.

At a press conference earlier on Friday, four lawmakers who had previously withdrawn from the impeachment process accused the governor of violating the 1999 Constitution and claimed that the parliament had no choice but to exercise its legislative authority by removing him from office.

They also said that Fubara lacked the trust necessary to deal with the state’s crisis and accused him of extortion.

They claim that by their actions thus far, the Governor and his Deputy have indicated that they are not interested in a peace process but rather wish to scare the Assembly into abandoning the impeachment procedure while they carry out their acts of impunity.

As a result, they ruled that the impeachment procedure had to proceed as scheduled.
