The Federal Government has announced activities for the 2026 Democracy Day celebration scheduled for June 12.

Speaking on the activities, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume described Democracy Day as a solemn occasion to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigerians that fought for the return of democratic rule.

Akume said the day is to give special tribute to the heroes of the June 12, 1993 struggle and the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.

He said the day offers the Federal Government the chance to showcase its achievements in strengthening democratic institutions and advancing national development in spite of the prevailing socio-economic challenges.
