Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba; Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu and other state government owned higher institutions would not be converted to universities.

The governor made the point on Friday in Umuahia while reacting to reports that the immediate past administration in the state converted three institutions to universities before exiting office.

Governor Otti explained that he was not aware of such conversion by the past Abia administration, saying: “Running many universities is a financial and administrative burden for a state.

He said duplication of universities denies the schools quality attention and proper funding, adding that Abia State University, Uturu and privately owned universities can render the needed services in the state.

“If you establish three universities, you will have three vice-chancellors, three registrars and three administration buildings.

“I will not be an apostle of duplicating universities when you have one you can fund very well and take advantage of,” Governor Otti said.

The Abia governor said he was more concerned about adequate funding of the existing higher institutions in the state while maintaining their statuses.

In the meantime, the singer gave an explanation for her decision to go from Nigeria to New York City.

In a different interview with media personality Angela Yee, Ayra Starr stated that the presence of friends and the cultural milieu of the city had an impact on her choice.

She claimed that she had spent a significant amount of time in the city throughout the previous two summers and ultimately made the decision to remain there for some time.

“I’ve been in New York for the past two summers, and last year I spent roughly three months living in Hell’s Kitchen with my pals. We were viewing American films and television series. She stated, “It was enjoyable.

The artist went on to say that while she had always desired to grow up in the United States, convenience and time differences ultimately determined the location.

She mentioned that although Los Angeles was an alternative, her choice was affected by the time and distance between Nigeria and the metropolis.

“I had always wanted to travel to America as a child. Which city, then, would I prefer? The nine-hour time difference between Nigeria and Los Angeles is too great. That’s why I went with New York,” she said.
