After being appointed as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode has thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In addition, Fani-Kayode thanked God and expressed gratitude to the president for what he called the honor of serving the nation in a diplomatic capacity.

He posted on X, saying, “I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this great honor that he has bestowed upon me, and I give God the glory for my posting as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.”

I am genuinely humbled. I pray that God would lead, guide, and prepare me for this new task. He will also keep watch over, bless, and defend Nigeria, my dear country, forever.

He also said that the appointment humbled him and that, as he gets ready to embark on the new task, he prays for spiritual direction.

Additionally, Fani-Kayode prayed for Nigeria’s ongoing protection, blessings, and peace.

In the fight against Boko Haram insurgency, the German and British defense attachés to Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to work alongside and support the theater command Northeast Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).

Brigadier Tom Harper and Colonel Boris Bovecamp, the British and German defense attachés to Nigeria, made the pledge yesterday while visiting the theater command headquarters in Maiduguri. They reaffirmed their continued support and cooperation in the fight against insurgency and terrorism.

Nigeria and the United Kingdom have a long-standing and respectful relationship, according to Brigadier General Tom Harper, who also emphasized their shared commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
He emphasized the UK’s commitment to continue supporting training through the British Military Advisory Team (BMATT) and praised the Nigerian Armed Forces’ efforts in combating terrorism in the Northeast, especially through Operation HADIN KAI.

Colonel Boris Bovecamp, Germany’s defense attaché to Nigeria, also made the same announcement, saying he was in the theater to discuss potential future cooperation areas, particularly capacity building and potential interventions through regional cooperation agreements to improve operational effectiveness and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

In response, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander of OPHK, praised the important contributions made to counter-insurgency efforts by the German and British Defence Attachés.

He emphasized the mutual advantage of the cooperation by pointing out that training activities have improved troops’ skills and proficiency in responding to changing security threats in OPHK.

He indicated that technological know-how, equipment, and logistical support will be areas of future cooperation.

A group photo, souvenir presentations, and the signing of the visitors’ register marked the end of the tour.

Applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, which gives Nigerian postgraduate students the chance to study in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia, are now being accepted, according to the Federal Government.

Dada Olusegun, the President’s Special Advisor on Social Media, made the statement on Monday via X (previously Twitter).

According to the statement, “FG has announced the start of applications for 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Scholarships overseas.”

Benefits include tuition, return flights, lodging, living allowances, health insurance, and, if necessary, bench fees. The program targets MSc and PhD candidates in fields related to the oil and gas industry.

The initiative seeks to develop indigenous capability in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry while giving access to top-notch training, research facilities, and international expertise, according to a statement on the PTDF scholarship board website.

Scholarships for PhD candidates in the UK will be split-site, enabling research to be done at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) as well as a few UK partner universities, such as Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.

The PTDF emphasized that the scholarships are extremely competitive and that candidates are evaluated based on their academic background, research projects, professional body membership, and how applicable their studies are to the oil and gas sector.

Requirements for Eligibility Include:

MSc candidates must have finished the NYSC program and have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) or higher in a first degree.

A five-page study proposal detailing aims, methods, and data gathering strategies must be submitted by PhD candidates.

Every applicant must have a valid National Identity Number (NIN), and submitting false documents or submitting more than one application will result in instant disqualification.

For authorized programs at PTDF partner institutions, interested individuals are encouraged to apply online at scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng. Applications must be submitted by February 27, 2026.
