A senior member of the party’s National Working Committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the uploading of candidates’ details had reached advanced stage.

The source said details of President Bola Tinubu and his running mate were expected to be uploaded to the INEC portal by the middle of the week.

“The details of our National Assembly candidates are being uploaded smoothly,” the source told The Nation.

“We expect to upload the particulars of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate on or before next Wednesday. We are very sure that by July 11, we will have uploaded all our candidates on the INEC portal.”

Checks at the APC’s Information and Communications Technology department at the Muhammadu Buhari House national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday showed that the party’s technical team had been interacting with the INEC portal without interruption.

Sources in the department said the details of most principal officers of the 10th National Assembly and some serving lawmakers have already been uploaded.

The details of four serving governors namely AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Kwara State; Mai Mala Buni, Yobe State; Hope Uzodimma, Imo State and Dapo Abiodun, Ogun State have also been uploaded to the electoral commission’s portal, they added.

The governors are part of the notable members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that chose the senatorial tickets of the party in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The race to beat the INEC deadline followed a review of the APC primary elections after hundreds of petitions were filed by aggrieved aspirants.

The party recently submitted a revised list of candidates to the INEC after its NWC dropped six senatorial and 19 House of Representatives candidates who had earlier emerged from the May primaries.

The changes touched constituencies in Abia, Kogi, Taraba, Benue, Ebonyi, Ondo, Kaduna, Niger and Kwara states.

The changes came after the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee made its recommendations.

A letter conveying the revised list was sent to INEC and signed by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the ruling party received over 700 petitions from aggrieved members after the conclusion of its primaries.

“The party got over 700 petitions from aggrieved members after the conclusion of our shadow elections,” Morka said.

Then the party’s leadership considered the recommendations that arose from the petitions, resulting in some constituency changes, while candidates who managed to defend their victories via the appeal process retained their tickets.

Morka refused to say when the final list of candidates of the APC would be published.

“The party’s immediate priority is to ensure that all approved candidates fill and return their INEC Form EC9 nomination documents before the deadline,” he said.

“Our immediate absolute priority now is to ensure that our designated candidates properly complete and return their Form EC9 nomination documents for uploading before the INEC deadline rather than releasing the list to the public,” he said.

Some changes came out of the appeal process, but many of the major APC figures held on to their tickets, including sitting governors who want to go to the Senate in 2027.

The party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. He said the NDC had filed an appeal against a recent court ruling and an application for stay of execution.

“The appeal processes had been served on the INEC Chairman and the commission,” the statement said.

“The party said it had been given access to the INEC portal to upload the names of its candidates as in line with the electoral time-table.

“Today, the NDC has filed an appeal against the ruling and a stay of execution/injunction served with a covering letter to the INEC chairman and his team to do what is right according to law and what is legally sensible, the statement added.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress is here to stay and is a duly registered party in Nigeria which has participated in all the political processes so far and as I said yesterday, nomination processes have already been concluded and in the eyes of the law, candidates have already emerged from the party for all offices across the country in primaries that were observed, monitored and recorded by INEC.

“What we have now is just the administrative process of submitting the names to INEC and we have been given access to the portal to upload our qualified candidates.

“My name and that of the Presidential Candidate have been uploaded to the INEC portal, the Vice Presidential Candidate will be done tomorrow after the deposition is completed. The process is also continuing for other candidates.

“We have religiously followed the INEC timetable. From now till the 11th of next month, we have to upload all National Assembly candidates, while that of the governors and State Houses of Assembly will end on July 17. So, there is enough time for all the names of the candidates to be submitted to INEC and there is no need for anyone to panic.

“As National Leader, I must also thank all the aspirants and those who showed interest for various offices. As they know, primaries, no matter how well-run, only one person can come out the winner. The processes were not perfect but we have tried to resolve these differences in this short period, for a new party dealing with such a high volume of aspirants in a direct primary situation managed by stakeholders in every state and by party leaders.

“We have started reconciliation processes and we expect these to reach everyone to complement what I and the leadership have continued to do. And we assure them that all those who have expressed interest shall be carried along in the party’s campaigns, committees and structures, because they constitute the grassroots strength and the backbone of our party.

“Congratulations to all NDC candidates, members and all lovers of democracy.

“Our multi-party democracy must not be destroyed. Desperados and mercenaries posing as political leaders will not destroy our hard-earned democracy.

We appreciate the solidarity, support and prayers of Nigerians.

“We also thank INEC under the leadership of Professor Joash Amupitan for their professionalism so far and we expect them to continue on this path and they will have the understanding of us all.

We thank him for registering the NDC and two other parties as directed by the court, but we also note his stance in filing an affidavit in opposition to the suit to deregister some opposition parties and reversing the non-recognition of the chairmanship of David Mark of the ADC as directed by the court.

“Although our institutions are not perfect, INEC, the judiciary and security agencies, all the leaders must come together to protect the neutrality of the institutions that protect our democracy and the integrity of our nation.

“We have filed and served our appeal and the accompanying applications, so the ball is now in the judiciary’s court and we expect the judiciary to do the right thing under the law.”
