Operatives of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have arrested a young man and a young woman in Filin Idi, Birnin Kebbi for alleged immoral acts, the Board said.

The agency said in a statement by the Board’s Director of Shariah, Sirajo Kamba, that seven suspected drug users were arrested in the raid while other suspects escaped by jumping over a fence.

The Kebbi State Hisbah Board arrested the young man and woman on May 20 in the Filin Idi area of Birnin Kebbi for alleged immoral conduct contrary to Islamic teachings and moral values of the society, the statement said.

The board said it also raided a house in Gesse Phase 2, Birnin Kebbi where it found seven women and two young men. Some suspects managed to escape by jumping over the fence, it said.

The statement said the suspects were allegedly involved in drug abuse and other immoral activities.

The board also said that 23 non-Nigerians who were roaming without any meaningful engagement were arrested by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and handed over to the Hisbah Board for further investigation.

“During routine patrols and checks to identify illegal immigrants and non-citizens, Officers of the Immigration Service came across a number of young men and women wandering under suspicious and indecent circumstances,” the statement said.

It said a total of 23 persons were later handed over to the Hisbah Board for further investigation and necessary action.

“The Hisbah Board is presently probing all the cases,” the director said.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has urged residents of the state to embrace unity, peace and collective responsibility as they step into the year 2026.

Kebbi State Government and the state Police Command have dismissed reports suggesting that the explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo Local Government Area was caused by a bomb or helicopter attack.

They clarified that the incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning, was the result of a fire outbreak involving gas cylinders.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, said preliminary findings by security agencies showed that the explosion occurred at the hospital’s staff quarters following a fire incident.

Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, Bala-Tafida said the state government was working closely with the police and other security agencies, who had since brought the situation under control.
He stressed that no life was lost in the incident, adding that although a building was affected, occupants had evacuated the premises before the explosion occurred.

“We commend the swift response of the Police Command and other security operatives for promptly securing the area and ensuring public safety,” the SSG said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property in the state.
In a similar statement, the Kebbi State Police Command said investigations and expert assessments confirmed that the explosion was caused by an inferno that overheated gas cylinders used in air-conditioning units and refrigerators.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the assessment was carried out by Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts alongside the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team.

“The assessment confirmed that no explosives or aerial activity were involved. No injuries or loss of life were recorded,” Usman said.

An explosion in the early hours of Tuesday rocked the General Hospital in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies immediately moved in to take control of the situation after the blast.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said in a statement.

He disclosed that a joint security team comprising the police, the military and vigilante operatives cordoned off the area, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) specialists were deployed to assess the scene.
“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” the police spokesman added.

Usman further revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state had ordered the deployment of additional tactical teams to the area to maintain public order and reassure residents.
“A comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, and further updates will be communicated as necessary,” he said.
The police urged residents to remain calm and to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to enable security operatives to effectively carry out their duties as investigations continue.

The management of Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, has expressed concern over low student enrolment despite the recent accreditation of additional academic programmes.

Rector, Dr Abubakar Boyi-Dalatu, said on Tuesday in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area, that the institution, established about 14 years ago, currently has around 600 students, with admissions still ongoing.
He noted that the governing council had approved the opening of study centres across the state to boost enrolment, targeting 2,000 students by the end of the current admission process.

Boyi-Dalatu disclosed that the polytechnic had secured N500 million from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for an Innovative Technology Centre, while its Skills Development Centre offers 18 accredited trades to equip students with practical skills.
Commissioner for Higher Education Isah Abubakar-Tunga said the state government had convened a stakeholders’ meeting to address the enrolment challenge.

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has received key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their supporters who joined the ruling party in Kalgo, Jega, and Aliero Local Government Areas on Thursday.

In Kalgo LGA, Alhaji Umar Namashaya Diggi led hundreds of his supporters into the APC. Similarly, in Jega LGA, Alhaji Atiku Bunu, a former Commissioner of Works, defected alongside thousands of PDP supporters. In Aliero LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Abba Alieru, younger brother of Senator Muhammadu Adamu Alieru, and former Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru, also joined the APC with a significant number of followers.

During the event, Professor Khalid Suleiman Jega, Chairman of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), highlighted the governor’s education-focused initiatives in Jega LGA, including the construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of school furniture, installation of boreholes, and fencing of schools.

In Aliero LGA, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru, speaking on behalf of the defectors, praised Governor Idris for his dedication to governance and improving the well-being of Kebbi residents. He assured the governor of their loyalty, stating, “Our return to the APC is not for personal gain but to contribute to the development of the state under your exemplary leadership.” He also hinted that Senator Muhammadu Adamu Alieru would soon join the APC.
