The Federal High Court in Abuja has moved the decision in a new case to April 14. The case is trying to stop Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from acting like they are the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

The decision in the case brought by Kogi State House of Representatives member Hon. Leke Abejide was supposed to be made today, but Justice Musa Suleiman Liman moved it back by 24 hours because he had other important official business to attend to.

A Registrar of the Court told reporters and politicians who had been at the court since 8 a.m. on Monday that the judgment would be put off.

Most of the politicians, mostly those from the camps of the lawmaker and David Mark-led leadership, left the courtroom one by one when they realized what was going on.

The Judge set April 13 as the date for the verdict last Friday after Abejide’s lawyer, Ibrahim Idris, SAN, and the defense lawyers made their cases for and against the suit.

Abejide, who is a member of the House of Representatives for the ADC, filed the lawsuit with the help of his lawyer.

The lawmaker filed an originating summons on February 15, 2026, with the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1637/2025. The lawmaker sued ADC, Ralph Nwosu, Mark, Aregbesola, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the first to fifth defendants.

Nwosu used to be the national chairman of the ADC, but he stepped down so that Mark, the former Senate President, could take over as party leader.

Abejide asked for an order that Nwosu’s transfer of ADC’s leadership to Mark and Aregbesola as interim national Chairman and interim national Secretary on July 2, 2025, at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja was illegal, unlawful, null, and void.

He asked for a permanent injunction to stop Mark and Aregbesola from acting like party leaders because “their supposed appointment, selection, or election was unlawful, illegal, null and void.”

He also asked for a permanent injunction to stop INEC from recognizing Mark and Aregbesola as ADC’s interim national chairman and interim national secretary “because their appointment, selection, or election did not meet the requirements of Section 82 of the Electoral Act, 2022,” among other things.

However, the lawyers for ADC (Shaibu Aruwa, SAN), Nwosu (P. I. Oyewole), Rilwan Okpanachi (Mark), Aregbesola (I. R. Abdullahi), and INEC (Anthony Onyeri) all asked the court to throw out the case because it didn’t have any merit.

ADC, Nwosu, Mark, and Aregbesola all said in their arguments that Abejide did not have the legal right to file the suit.

In their separate preliminary objections, they said that the case is about things that are part of a political party’s internal affairs, which can’t be decided by a court.

They also said that the court didn’t have the power to look into these kinds of things.

The defendants also said that Abejide was wrong when he said that the Mark-led leadership was elected on July 2, 2025, at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting. It was actually elected on July 29, 2025.

They said that Abejide had not given any good reason for why the lawsuit should be filed.

The defendants, who asked the court to throw out the case with a lot of costs in line with Section 83(5) of the Electiral Act, 2026, said that the case is academic.

As different voices inside the party publicly repeated their viewpoints on the party’s structure and political direction ahead of the upcoming governorship race, new information regarding the leadership crisis shakening the PDP’s Osun State chapter have surfaced.

The status of Sunday Bisi, the state chairman, who has denied allegations that he has been removed from office, is at the heart of the conflict.

A stakeholders’ forum’s announcement of his alleged expulsion, according to Bisi, was unconstitutional and ineffective.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Thursday, Bisi insisted that his term as the state’s legitimate party chairman is still in effect.

“The forum does not have the authority or mandate to alter or abolish the party’s elected structures. “I’m still the chairman,” he declared.

He maintained that decisions impacting elected officials could only be made by the party’s duly formed institutions operating within the parameters of its constitution.

Bisi revealed that the PDP in Osun had supported Governor Ademola Adeleke for reelection rather than putting forth a candidate for the August governorship election.

Bisi stated that the majority of the state’s elected politicians were still PDP members, although acknowledging conflicts within the party.

“The PDP still includes our elected politicians, with the exception of the governor and deputy governor. Since our party does not have a candidate, we have endorsed Governor Adeleke,” he continued.

The chairman also addressed comments ascribed to Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the former governor, saying that they were at odds with the stance of what he called the Osun party’s mainstream structure.

“The statement attributed to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola is part of a failed 2022 plot to stop Governor Adeleke and is an open betrayal,” Bisi stated.

He clarified that the governor’s political future was uncertain due to internal PDP differences at the national level, which led to some strategic choices.

“Our governor’s candidacy was in jeopardy because to the rift within the PDP national leadership. The governor did the right thing by looking for a reelection platform. He even claimed that Prince Oyinlola was the first to propose this idea.

Bisi said that the Osun party’s core leadership and membership base continued to support the decisions made by the existing state executive.

“The governor, our leadership, and our elected mandate as state officers are supported by the mainstream of the Osun PDP and cannot be shortened by any unelected, unlawful, or unauthorized group,” he said.

Prince Oyinlola had earlier insisted that the PDP was still a strong political force in the state during a separate stakeholders’ gathering in Osogbo, even though it was claimed that Governor Adeleke had defected to the Accord Party.

He stated that the purpose of the gathering was to provide clarification on national and state-level party developments.

According to Oyinlola, “there have been some confusing narratives being pushed out about the status of PDP, especially in Osun State. What we have done today is narrate situations as they are to our members, so that the entire wards and local governments in Osun will know exactly where PDP stands today in Osun State.”

In response to allegations that Adeleke’s reelection was facilitated by the breakdown of the state’s PDP apparatus into the Accord Party, Oyinlola denied the allegations.

The PDP is an organization that has a presence throughout the entire nation. We will not let it perish in our own time,” he declared.

“We are holding on to PDP,” he said, adding that the party was still receptive to new developments. Our governor is welcome to return and spend time with his family in the PDP tomorrow, but for the time being, the party is firmly established in Osun State.

The assertions made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde that he conferred with the Alaafin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and the Soun of Ogbomoso over the rotation of the chairperson of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs have been denied by the Alaafin of Oyo’s Palace.

The palace insisted that no such meeting ever took place, calling the governor’s claim false in a statement dated January 15, 2026.

Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, signed the statement.

The Alaafin, Oba Engineer Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, never met with the governor or the other traditional rulers listed about the issue, according to the palace.

Additionally, it rejected claims that the Alaafin endorsed the idea of a rotating chairperson.

According to the statement, “the Alaafin neither met with the governor nor endorsed rotational leadership of the council.”

The palace went on to say that the Alaafin’s stance, which represents the opinions of all Oyo stakeholders, has already been formally conveyed to the state government in a memo filed by the Oyo Council of Elders.

It underlined that the document continues to represent the Alaafin and Oyo communities’ official stance on the State Council of Obas and Chiefs’ leadership structure.
