The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects and recovered two stolen motorcycles.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off and a thorough investigation.

The PPRO, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Dutse, the State capital, said the first incident occurred on March 5, 2025, when an okada rider, Idris Ya’u, was attacked and robbed of his Bajaj red motorcycle with registration number TRN 704 QL Kano.

“The suspect, Haruna Alhaji Yusuf, was arrested on March 12, 2025, and confessed to the crime,” said SP Adam.

In a related development, the police spokesman said another okada rider, Yunusa Suleman, was attacked and robbed of his motorcycle on March 13, 2024.

He disclosed that the suspect, Magaji Mohammed, was arrested while in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

Investigation according to the Police spokesperson revealed that Magaji Mohammed had hired a cyclist and instructed him to drive him to the government house’s Unity Pentagon roundabout.

“When he arrived at Dasina Quarters, where his criminal partner was located, he requested the cyclist to stop and One Suleiman Nasaru, who is now at large, appeared and hit the okada rider on his head with a hammer.

“As a result, the cyclist fell unconscious, and the suspects fled with the motorcycle. The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“The police command has commended the efforts of the vigilantes who collaborated with them to apprehend the perpetrators.”

The police spokesperson further explained that “the suspects are currently being investigated, and once completed, they will be prosecuted accordingly.”

Adam revealed that the command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens and also appealed to the public to provide useful information that can lead to the arrest of the other suspects.

A 26-year-old woman has been confirmed dead in a collision between a truck and a commercial motorcycle on Badagry Expressway.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on Monday in Lagos.

The accident occurred at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Ojo, located in the state’s Ojo area.

“A fatal accident occurred at Ojo Barracks main gate along Badagry Expressway involving a truck and a motorcycle,” the PPRO said.

The motorcyclist was travelling from Mile 2 to Iyana-Iba with a passenger when he lost control.

The passenger fell under the moving truck and was crushed by its rear tyre, dying instantly.

The PPRO confirmed the body was removed from the scene.

He also stated that both the truck and motorcycle had been recovered for investigation.

The motorcycle rider, however, fled the scene, according to the police.

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested six motorcycle thieves who specialised in violently attacking and snatching motorbikes from unsuspecting members of the public in Kano State.

The suspects were apprehended around the Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the state command of the NSCDC, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Monday.

“The six suspects arrested are in the custody of the NSCDC, investigation is ongoing for necessary legal action,” he said.

The suspects are: Najib Lawal, 25; Bashir Bello Idris, 34; Lawan Yakubu, 27’ Kabiru Garba, 29; Hussain Hassan, 24 and Mubarak Basiru, 21 years.

He disclosed that two members of the gang were at large and a serious manhunt had been launched to apprehend them.

“Two of the suspects, Mubarak Basiru and Hussain Hassan, had earlier on January 14, 2025, around 0300hrs forcefully broken into Mallam Abdullahi Bala’s house at Gurin Gawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area assaulted him and eventually made away with his bike.

“With the assistance of vigilante members and men of the corps, Kumbotso Division, the two attackers were successfully nabbed.

“Four additional suspects, among whom two stolen motorcycle receivers are all in the NSCDC net. Moreover, two motorbikes have so far been recovered with an investigation being intensified to recover more,” he said.

He said the Commandant, Mohammed Falala, had since directed the armed squad unit of the command to mobilise operatives for routine patrols around the Eastern Bypass to ward off the criminals’ attack in the area and other places in the metropolis.

He added that the Commandant, Mohammed Falala, has directed the armed squad unit of the command to mobilise operatives for routine patrols around the Eastern Bypass to deter criminal activity in the area and other parts of the metropolis.
