All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the Ondo State National Assembly elections in 2027 have urged party members to accept the results of the party’s primary elections and refrain from protesting, emphasizing that winning the general elections requires unity.

The request was made on Friday in Akure after the candidates returned from Abuja, where the APC ended the uploading of results from its National Assembly primary elections.

Michael Akintomide, the APC flag bearer for the Ondo West/Ondo East Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the candidates and urged disgruntled party members to maintain composure and respect the party’s supremacy, pointing out that the National Working Committee (NWC) had concluded the primary process in accordance with the party’s constitution.

There’s no reason to be agitated. For the sake of clarity, party supremacy exists and the National Working Committee has made a statement. You should disregard anything they post on social media that goes against the party’s stance. Even if there are protests, don’t join them. Have faith in the procedure. Credible candidates have been developed via the approach, according to Akintomide.

He reiterated that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is still in charge of the APC in Ondo State and conveyed optimism that the governor and the party leadership would collaborate to fortify the party before the 2027 elections.

In response to worries that the APC’s electoral prospects would be impacted by differences resulting from the primaries, Akintomide characterized such arguments as a typical aspect of internal party fights.

“People have the right to express their displeasure. However, at the end of the day, we shall come to the round table and grasp that the party is higher than every personal interest. We’ll all unite as one and win,” he continued.

Speaking as well, Jimi Odimayo, the APC’s nominee for the Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency, urged party supporters to support every candidate that emerged from the primaries, claiming that despite the rivalry throughout the nomination process, the APC remained a single family.

Odimayo expressed gratitude to Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of the Interior, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the APC National Working Committee for their contributions to the smooth running of the primary polls.

“I suggest that all party members embrace the party’s candidates. I suggest that they band together and contribute to the party’s advancement. We get along so well. “It’s a single family,” he declared.

Olumuyiwa Asagunla, director-general of the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG) in Ondo State, stated that the purpose of the candidates’ welcome was to express gratitude to President Tinubu and the APC National Working Committee for their support of the party in the state.

According to him, the organization has continued to mobilise, sensitise and empower communities across Ondo State since its inception in March 2024 and is optimistic that the APC would improve on its electoral performance in the 2027 general elections.

Asagunla ascribed the optimism to the Tinubu administration’s accomplishments and the development projects that Ondo State has been drawn to.

He, however, highlighted the need for reconciliation within the party, urging members to place the APC above personal goals and work together to ensure success in the 2019 general elections.

The crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), took a fresh turn on Tuesday, as aggrieved party members staged a protest in Akure, the state capital.

Carrying placards with various inscriptions, protesters took to major roads and marched through the state capital to register their grievances, it was reported.

The protest is coming on the heels of the reversal of the results of some Senate and House of Representatives primaries across constituencies in Ondo State by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, which denied eight candidates their tickets to make room for new nominees.

Reports were also received from the Primary Election Appeal Committees of the NWC and a fresh list of candidates approved in accordance with the Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But the loyalists of the affected aspirants rejected the adjustments and called for the release of the actual results of the direct primary elections conducted across the state.

Some of the placards read: “Ondo State Is on Fire,” “Ondo State Says No to Abuja Result,” “No to Corner-Corner Appeal,” “We No Go Gree,” and “Let Our Votes Count.”

The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Seun Osamaye, speaking on behalf of the protesters, said the list being circulated was fake and did not reflect the outcome of the direct primaries conducted in the 203 wards of the state.

“We, the women of Ondo State who are members of the APC, have come out to express our displeasure with the fake list being circulated. “We believe it is fake because it does not represent the mandate of the people.

“The party members knew the names of those that came out of the direct primaries and wondered why the names on the revised list were different from those voted for during the exercise,” said Osamaye.

She called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, saying she was sure he would do so in line with his commitment to fairness, justice and democratic principles.

Also speaking, a youth leader in the party, Bright Ojo, called the revised list a “democratic coup” against APC members in Ondo State.

“This is a protest against the democratic coup in Ondo State. “During the direct primary, the people voted en mass and the results reflected the will and mandate of the people from the field,” he said.

Ojo said the amended list contained the names of aspirants who did not make the primaries and questioned the role of the party’s national leadership in the changes.
