The All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in charge, has attacked Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, saying he doesn’t deserve his job.

This happened after Makinde brought up “Operation Wetie” at an opposition summit in Ibadan, Oyo State, last Saturday.

The APC said that what the governor said was a careless call to violence.

Remember that Makinde spoke at the national summit of All Opposition Political Party Leaders and warned against what he called a dangerous consolidation of legislative power under one party.

“For those who are living like there’s no tomorrow. They should keep in mind that this is where “Operation Wetie” began. He told the people there that this was the same as the Wild Wild West.

The name “Operation Wetie,” which comes from a Yoruba phrase that means “wet him,” refers to the political violence that took place in Nigeria’s western region, especially Ibadan, in the mid-1960s.

The APC quickly responded with a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Sunday. He said it was very troubling that a sitting governor and Chief Security Officer of a state would use such a violent historical reference.

The party in power said that the comments could lead to chaos, violence, and a lack of respect for the law.

The party said, “Makinde has shown that he is not fit for the high office of Governor by calling for violence.”

It then told security and intelligence agencies to take action and made it clear that constitutional immunity does not protect public officials from being held responsible for statements that are seen as a threat to national security.

A former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Bisi Ilaka, has formally resigned from the party.

Ilaka praised the PDP for providing him with the chance to serve in a variety of roles at the state and federal levels in a resignation letter dated Tuesday, February 10, which was made available to reporters in Ibadan on Thursday.

Shortly after taking office, Governor Makinde named Ilaka his first Chief of Staff on May 29, 2019.

Prior to Segun Ogunwuyi taking over in 2021 and being reappointed after the general elections in 2023, Ilaka held the position until 2021.

Ilaka wrote the following in his letter, “The Chairman, Ward 5, Oyi East LG: Re: Resignation of Party Membership”:

“It is with utmost humility that I tender my resignation of membership from the PDP.”

“I will always be appreciative of the chances the party has given me and the unwavering support I have received over the years. Until we cross paths again.

His departure occurs months after Senator Agboola Ayoola, widely known as Alleluyah, a former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and another well-known PDP member in Oyo State, ended his long-standing association with the party in October 2025.

Former governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao-Akala appointed Ayoola, who hails from Itesiwaju Local Government Area, as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from 2003 to 2011.

As the sole PDP senator elected from the South-West from 2011 to 2015, he also created history.
