The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has turned down a proposal from a group connected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to take over its leadership. The PRP made it clear that the party cannot be bought or taken over.

Abdulmajid Yakubu Dauda, the chairman of PRP Vanguard, spoke in Kano on Monday and said that the party will not let its founding ideology be used for personal or financial gain.

He told people who were thinking about joining the party to be careful because the PRP doesn’t allow any kind of purchase or secret deal.

Dauda said that some people in Kaduna, who he said were never part of the PRP, were trying to take over its structure.

He says that these people are now acting as leaders and letting members of other troubled political parties, like the ADC, join the PRP without following the rules.

He also said that the group he called the “Kaduna Mafia” does not share the values of the PRP. He said they are part of the political elite and don’t care about the party’s long-standing goal of improving the lives of everyday Nigerians.

The leader of the PRP Vanguard made it clear that the party’s current internal crisis is still in court and that there is no agreement to make peace with any group. He questioned calls for unity before the 2027 elections, asking what kind of unity would ignore the party’s core beliefs and current structures.

Dauda said that the PRP has a long history that comes from the struggles of workers, intellectuals, and regular people. He said that the party was not made to serve the interests of the rich or be run by a small group of people.

He also said that giving the party to what he called “career politicians” and “power seekers” would go against everything the founders stood for. He also said that the group from Kaduna doesn’t have any ties to grassroots supporters and only becomes active during elections to look for money from rich sponsors.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly denied rumors that it is talking to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) about using the platform for the 2027 elections.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement on Monday that the party is not in any talks with any other party about what might happen before the expected court ruling.

He said that the coalition leaders have no plans to get rid of the ADC, so these reports should be ignored.

“We want to be clear that this is not true.

“The leaders of the coalition are not talking to any political party about this right now.

“We are fully committed to making sure that the illegal actions taken against our leaders by INEC and other agents of the ruling party are overturned. We think this is the only way to protect the rule of law and make sure that Nigeria’s multiparty democracy stays strong.

“We are open to adding more groups to the coalition to unite all of the opposition in the country and save our country, but we are also very clear about the responsibility that this moment has put on us. We won’t give up that duty.

“Because of this, any suggestion that we are thinking about leaving the ADC is premature and should be ignored.

“Even though the democratic institutions are being blatantly abused, the ADC leadership is still sure that the judicial institutions will not give in to the pressure to help destroy Nigeria’s democracy at this crucial time,” he wrote.

It was said that the clarification came after the PRP National Chairman, Hakeem Baba Ahmed, said that several opposition politicians had asked the party to work with them before the 2027 general elections.

He says that in the last three to four weeks, a number of politicians have contacted the party about joining.

Ahmed said on Arise News that the party is open to anyone who wants to join, including leaders of the African Democratic Coalition (ADC).

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), says that a lot of politicians want to join the party before the next election.

He said this in an interview on Arise TV, where he called the PRP a good political choice and said that new members are welcome.

“In the last three or four weeks, you will be amazed at how many people have reached out to us and said, ‘We’re coming over to your party,’ he said.

He says that the party is ready to welcome anyone who wants to join.

He said, “Anyone who wants to come in is welcome, whether they come on their own or because the system has blocked and almost destroyed their party.”

Baba-Ahmed said that the party would have a much bigger role in the coming months than it does now.

He said that the growing interest shows that people trust the PRP.

“We see our role in the next few months as far, far greater than anything we have done before,” he said.

He said that people are joining the party not because they are desperate, but because of its long-held beliefs.

“They’re not just coming here to escape politics.” He said, “They are coming because we are a party of principles.”

The head of the PRP said that the party is one of the oldest in the country.

“We’re about 70 years old.” He went on, “We have always stood by certain principles.”

Baba-Ahmed said that time might be a problem in building momentum, but he was sure that the party would get through it.

“We know that Nigerians are ready for real change, real difference in how this country is run,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed also said that the party is already talking to people who want to join and has set some basic rules for them to follow.

“They know they can come in. They know they can come in. He said, “But we want them to join the party before we talk to them.”

David Mark, the troubled National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), met behind closed doors with leaders of the Peoples Redemption Party on Friday. This is part of the ongoing leadership crisis in the ADC.

The meeting, which took place out of the public eye, brought together important people from both parties. This led to rumors about how the opposition is coming together as the 2027 general elections approach.

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the PRP; Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary; Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP National Publicity Secretary; and Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were all at the meeting.

Baba-Ahmed recently took over as leader of the PRP after stepping down as Vice President Kashim Shettima’s Special Adviser on Political Matters in April 2025. Many people saw this as a sign that he was getting back into active partisan politics.

Mark said, “The ADC also hoped that the good relationship between the two parties would stay that way, putting the needs of the whole country first.”

The meeting took place at a time when tensions were high in the ADC because a third group had formed within the party.

The group recently supported INEC’s decision to stop recognizing the Mark-led leadership, using a Court of Appeal ruling as an example.

The group told reporters in Abuja that what the electoral body did was in line with what the court said.

The group also disagreed with Nafiu Bala Gombe’s claim to be in charge, saying that he did not come to power through any official or reliable means.

The group also said that Ralph Nwosu, the former chairman of the ADC, was trying to move the party’s structure to people they said were not members but were allegedly aligned with Mark.

The faction, which included some state chairmen, said it held a valid National Executive Committee meeting at Dumebi Kachikwu’s office in Abuja, where it made decisions about a new leadership structure.

The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has raised the alarm over the resurgence of terrorism and increasing security challenges in northern Nigeria.

The opposition party also raised concerns about the current deteriorating economy, citing rising living costs and inflation.

In a statement, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North-West, Abba Sule Namatazu, described the ongoing insecurity in parts of the north as deeply troubling. He criticized the Federal Government’s approach to engaging in dialogue with terrorists, arguing that such negotiations only encourage further violence.

“Vast tracts of productive farmland across the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions remain abandoned, resulting in a severe food crisis nationwide. The PRP believes all stakeholders must collaborate to address this issue urgently,” Namatazu stated.

The PRP also rejected the Federal Government’s proposed plan to privatize public higher education institutions. Namatazu warned that such a move would be strongly opposed, emphasizing its potential harm to the common man.

“PRP, alongside other concerned Nigerians, will resist any attempt to privatize public schools, which many of our current and former leaders once attended. This policy undermines the common man and basic common sense,” he added.

Namatazu also criticized the disparity in educational opportunities, highlighting how leaders send their children abroad to elite institutions while many Nigerian children are left out of school, struggling for survival.

On tax reforms, the PRP acknowledged their importance but urged the Federal Government to involve professionals in the process, emphasizing that taxation is a national issue requiring careful handling.
