Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Modashiru Obasa on Thursday stormed the Assembly complex.

Obasa arrived the Assembly complex in the company of some security officials and entered the Speaker’s Office around 12 noon, Punch reports.

Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Mojisola Meranda, Segun Ajiboye said Obasa and his team allegedly broke into the Speaker’s office.

DAILY POST had reported that the police escorts attached to Meranda were withdrawn ahead of Obasa’s return to the Assembly.

Similarly, Obasa’s security details were said to have been reinstated.

In January, lawmakers from the state had impeached Obasa for gross misappropriation while he was in the United States, US.

Upon his return, Obasa described his impeachment as unconstitutional, arguing that it did not follow due process.

Meranda, a former Deputy Speaker, was sworn in to replace Obasa and got the blessing of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, GAC.

The Imo State Police command has said they were yet to receive any report on the case of five family members who died after the consumption of sliced oil bean (ugba) in Umuebi Amazu in the Aboh Mbaise local government area.

The police, however, appealed to the relatives or neighbours of the deceased family to immediately report the case at the Aboh Mbaise Police Division so that they could commence an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Police spokesperson for Imo State, DSP Henry Okoye made the disclosure while answering questions from LEADERSHIP in Owerri.

The state owned newspaper, The Statesman had on Tuesday reported the news in Owerri.
According to Okoye, the Aboh Mbaise police station was yet to receive any report of the death of the five family members involving a mother and four children.

The PPRO said, “The police are yet to receive any report of this incident. We appeal to the relatives and the neighbours to kindly report the case formally at the Aboh Mbaise police division to enable us investigate and ascertain the remote causes of the deaths.

“We call on the people in that community to report the incident at the police so we can unravel the cause of the deaths”, Okoye said.

A village source who pleaded anonymity, said the woman and her four children ate sliced oil bean in their Umuebi Amazu village in Aboh Mbaise local government area on January 2, 2025 which resulted in their deaths.

He said three persons were discovered dead on the spot where they ate the food, while the other two were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri and died at the hospital.
