Conflict and security journalist Bakatsine reported the incident in a post on X on Sunday.

The report stated that the explosion occurred Saturday morning between Machiyan Gyada and Baturen Daji in the Dekara axis as the troops were returning from a security patrol.

Local sources told Bakatsine that the suspected roadside bomb hit the patrol vehicle, resulting in the casualties, he said.

Three Nigerian soldiers have been reported killed and several others injured yesterday morning after their patrol vehicle allegedly ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) near Babanna in Borgu LGA of Niger State.

“The explosion was between Machiyan Gyada and Baturen Daji on the Dekara axis as the troops returned from a security patrol, local sources said,” Bakatsine wrote.

At the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Nigerian Armed Forces or the Niger State Government on the incident.

The blast was coming weeks after three separate IED incidents were recorded in Sokoto State, raising fresh concerns over rising use of roadside bombs against security personnel in parts of northern Nigeria, it was learnt.

The operation was conducted between May 20 and May 23, 2026 on credible intelligence on terrorist movements and suspected plans to launch coordinated attacks on communities and security formations in the axis.

The Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the first phase of the operation involved precision air interdiction on terrorists gathered around Tungan Bako and Kasuwan Daji in Rafi LGA.

More strikes were carried out on 21 May after terrorists were seen moving on motorcycles and footpaths with rustled cattle from Tungunguna towards Uregi and their movement and escape routes effectively neutralised, he said.

“Armed reconnaissance operations that followed on May 23 over Dogon Dawa and nearby communities in Mariga LGA led to precision strikes that thwarted planned attacks on troops’ locations,” Mr Ejodame said.

He said the post-operation assessments revealed neutralization of a large number of terrorists and disruption of their planned offensives and added the mission was part of the ongoing efforts to degrade the terrorist capabilities in the region.

Gololo was picked up at Grand Square Supermarket in Abuja after he made comments in a viral video against Akpabio over remarks linked to the 2027 presidential election, it was reported.

The retired military officer was allegedly invited for questioning after the video went viral, sources familiar with the development told Sahara Reporters.

Akpabio’s Alleged Comment Provokes Anger
The controversy followed remarks attributed to Akpabio that President Bola Tinubu would return in 2027 “whether Northerners like it or not.”

Some Northern political stakeholders were reported to have condemned the comment.

Gololo, who in recent years has become known for his outspoken political views, was one of the Senate President’s most vocal critics.

In the viral video, Gololo accused Akpabio of disrespecting the Northern Nigerians.

He said, “Okay, good afternoon once again, my fellow Nigerians. We heard you, Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“You say, oh, the Northern vote of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or they didn’t vote that is coming back. No worries.

“What did you vote for in the last election? You win ? You get nothing. Do you carry any vote from Akwa Ibom? You don’t bring any votes with you.

You bring nothing but yourself. And the Northerners, they are the ones that put you as a Senate President. “Today you tell us, like it or not.”

Gololo insisted that Northerners had the constitutional right to say whom to support in future elections.

He said no politician could tell citizens how to vote.

“You said whether we vote Tinubu or we don’t vote Tinubu, Tinubu is coming back, and unless you leave the country, you are the one who is going to leave the country,” the retired General further said.

We are Nigerians, we are citizens. Who are you , , , The same Northerners. They give you a minister.”

Gololo Hits Akpabio –
The retired general also accused Akpabio of corruption, saying the Senate President had problems with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

“When you are a criminal, you have your charges in the EFCC, in the Akwa Ibom money, and then when they give you a Niger Delta, it’s a shame for you even to be a Senate President.

“It is a shame of Akpabio. What a shame. A criminal who was prosecuted by Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation. We have all the proof. You’re talking bollocks.

He further called Akpabio “worst Senate President” and “most corrupt Senate President.”

“Senate President. Worst Senate President. The most corrupt Senate President ever. Senate President condemned. The useless Senate President,” Gololo said.

Gololo said Northern voters will freely decide their political options before 2027.

“We are in Nigeria,” he said. We are Northeners. And we’re proud to be Northerners. And we will not vote Tinubu.

Get lost. We’re not able to vote for him. We are voting Atiku”. And you don’t even tell us to go away from Nigeria.

“Try it. I don’t care who you are. Who are you to tell us who to vote for or not? You’re to get out of the country.

We are not going out of Nigeria”. We are people. Senate President doesn’t make you… You’re not supposed to talk to us anyway. Anytime you talk to us anyway, I’ll talk to you anyway.”

The retired general also challenged the political relevance of Akpabio in the 2023 election.

“Did you make us vote Tinubu in 2023? We voted Tinubu. What vote did you carry from Akwa Ibom? What did you vote? What did you bring for Tinubu?” “Rubbish,” he added.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 7, 2026 at about 11:50am after a distress call was received on a mob attack that led to the death of Kabiru Idris, 30, and Ibrahim Samaila Danliti, 40, both of Gabanga Village, Warji LGA.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the spokesman of the Command, Nafiu Habib said the victims were riding on a motorcycle when they were allegedly chased by a mob from Ningi LGA shouting, “thieves, thieves” before they were intercepted at Bunga Hamlet and severely beaten until they became unconscious.

The victims were taken to the General Hospital, Warji, by police operatives, where a medical doctor later confirmed them dead, the sources said.

The command said detectives acting on intelligence arrested three suspects, Samaila Turawa of Gwada, Danbaba Haruna of Gwada and Ubale Mai Kaji of Ningi for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The police said the suspects are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi and are assisting investigators to arrest other escaping members of the mob.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident, saying it was barbaric and ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killings.

He reiterated that no person or group of persons has the right to take the law into their hands and unlawfully take another person’s life.

The accusations are “misleading, erroneous, and aimed at causing disaffection and acrimony” between the state and the DSS, according to a statement released by Secretary to the State Government Samuel Jatau on Tuesday.

According to a statement posted on the Plateau State Government’s Facebook page, the DSS confiscated guns intended for the Plateau Neighbourhood Watch organization, Operation Rainbow, in order to thwart its ability to respond to the violence.
“There is a false narrative on Facebook and other social media platforms that the Department of State Services confiscated weapons that were purchased for the Plateau State Neighborhood Watch organization, Operation Rainbow,” Jatau stated.

The study went on to suggest that the seizure was purposefully carried out in order to delay the agency’s reaction to the recent violent attacks on certain communities inside states. We want to make it very evident that this is not at all the case.

No action has ever been taken to thwart government attempts to combat insecurity in Plateau State by the Department of State Services, even if it was done in error.

He underlined that efforts to save lives and restore calm to the Plateau had been the DSS’s greatest assistance.

The Department, on the other hand, has been a very trustworthy partner and has supported the state in reducing insecurity in a number of ways.

The public is consequently encouraged to disregard those stories since they are false, deceptive, and intended to sow discord and disenchantment between the state government and the Department of State Services.
