In the same vein, Kwara North community leaders and elders have also expressed their appreciation to Tinubu, AbdulRazaq and other stakeholders for making their son, Engr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu emerge as the APC gubernatorial candidate in the Friday primary election.

The Etsu Patigi, Alh Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, who made the statement on behalf of the traditional council, described the development as historic milestone and a clear demonstration of fairness, inclusiveness, equity and political balance in the state.

The respected monarch said the decision to back the aspiration of Kwara North was a reflection of the commitment of the leadership to justice, unity and peaceful co-existence among the different regions of the state.

He said the gesture has rekindled hope, strengthened political harmony and further deepened the confidence of the people of Kwara North in the leadership of the APC at both the state and national levels.

He commended AbdulRazaq for his statesmanship, political maturity and doggedness to fairness and equity, adding that he is a leader whose administration continues to promote unity, peace and sustainable development in the state.

He also lauded President Tinubu and the leadership of the APC for listening to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Kwara North, noting that the actualisation of the long agitation for power shift to the district would remain a memorable and commendable feat in the political history of the state.

He reaffirmed the monarchs’ backing for peace, unity and democratic growth, just as he prayed God to give Tinubu, AbdulRazaq and all APC leaders wisdom and divine guidance in the performance of their duties to the nation and the people of Kwara State.

We are grateful to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, APC National leadership, State Executives, party leaders and stakeholders for believing in the people of Kwara North and making our long awaited aspiration a reality. “We pray Almighty Allah continues to guide, protect and bless them with wisdom and success as they continue to serve the people,” the monarch’s statement said.

In their remarks and a statement signed by the former minister of sports, Hon. Isa Bio Ibrahim, the Kwara North elders and leaders commended Tinubu and AbdulRazaq for making their people have a sense of belonging through the emergence of Danladi-Salihu as the APC gubernatorial candidate.

“We the good people of Kwara North are most grateful to Governor AbdulRazaq and President Tinubu for honouring and accepting one of us, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi from Baruten LGA of Kwara North to succeed Your Excellency.

We thank you for your sincere leadership and the overwhelming support you gave to all aspirants which ultimately resulted in the victory of Kwara North in the APC primaries. Glory to Allah (SWT) and your humble self for the confidence and trust sir . We shall never let you down. For this trust we shall ever be grateful and true to you.” You have proved yourself a man of honour, equity, fairness and justice and your name shall go down in gold in the history of Kwara State.

We salute Your Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Tinubu on behalf of Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi, the entire Kwara North and indeed the APC family of Kwara State. “In Kwara State, we have been fatherless but now you are our father. Kwara North will reciprocate this magnanimity by voting massively for APC in 2027,”, Ibrahim said.

The elders made the call during a visit to Eze Anthony Okorochukwu of Bende ancient kingdom, Bende LGA.

The elders, led by former Chairman of the local government area, Emmanuel Onwuchekwa, urged the monarchs to advise the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu to end his rift with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and embrace peace.

According to them, the Deputy Speaker is not against the ambition of Senator Kalu to contest for Senate in 2027 election in any way.

“Ben is not stopping Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from running for Senate.

“They are running for two different offices. But why this level of hostility?

“We do not want any war between Igbere and Bende. We are fed up with this”, said the elders.

During the inaugural Obokungbusi Hall of Fame induction event on Tuesday, Oba Haastrup delivered the warning. This program honors notable Ijesa indigenes for their contributions to the world.

Speaking to the event’s audience, the traditional ruler voiced his grave concerns about what he called an alarming increase in politically motivated murders in Ijesaland.

He said that incidents purportedly related to campaigns in advance of the upcoming August election had claimed the lives of at least three Ijesa males in a single month.

He characterized the state of affairs as intolerable and a sign of the region’s perilous trend toward lawlessness.

It is wrong for politicians to butcher my people like chickens while keeping their children overseas.

“You killed three of my sons in less than a month; how many more will you kill by August?” The king asked.

“Why will you turn Nigeria back to the barbaric age of the 1960s?” he asked, questioning the reasoning behind the violence.

The monarch issued a dire warning, threatening to expel any lawmaker found responsible for the murder of Ijesa natives.

“I will organize Ijesas to expel any criminal who becomes a politician and murders any Ijesa.” Ijesas are no chickens, and it won’t occur while I’m in charge without serious repercussions. “Enough is enough,” he continued.

Additionally, Oba Haastrup urged religious leaders in churches, mosques, and traditional places of worship to encourage their adherents to become more vocal opponents of political violence.

Concern regarding insecurity in Ijesaland, especially in Ilesa, where recent violent occurrences have resulted in fatalities, is mounting at the time of the warning.

Following a violent altercation between competing factions in the Adeti neighborhood of Ilesa, the Osun State Police Command had already reported the arrest of five suspected cultists.

Residents were reassured of ongoing security operations in the region by police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi, who said that attempts were underway to capture further suspects connected to the event.

The palace insisted that no such meeting ever took place, calling the governor’s claim false in a statement dated January 15, 2026.

Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, signed the statement.

The Alaafin, Oba Engineer Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, never met with the governor or the other traditional rulers listed about the issue, according to the palace.

Additionally, it rejected claims that the Alaafin endorsed the idea of a rotating chairperson.

According to the statement, “the Alaafin neither met with the governor nor endorsed rotational leadership of the council.”

The palace went on to say that the Alaafin’s stance, which represents the opinions of all Oyo stakeholders, has already been formally conveyed to the state government in a memo filed by the Oyo Council of Elders.

It underlined that the document continues to represent the Alaafin and Oyo communities’ official stance on the State Council of Obas and Chiefs’ leadership structure.

The Appeal Court’s three-member panel, presided over by Justice Okong Abang, rendered the decision.

In light of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, the suspension is pending a final ruling on the Kano Emirate dispute by the Nigerian Supreme Court.
Sanusi was reinstated after the State House of Assembly passed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024 in the midst of a legal battle started by the kingmakers’ legal team, Alhaji Aminu Babba-Dan’agundi (also known as Sarkin Dawaki Babba).
Legal Conflicts

Recall that in June 2024, a Federal High Court in Kano, acting on an application by Babba-Dan’agundi, ruled against the actions made to reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

The Kano State Attorney General, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Kano State House of Assembly, and security organizations including the Department of State Services (DSS) were also sued by Babba-Dan’agundi.
The 2019 Emirate Council bill, which created five emirates from the original Kano Emirate under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was abolished by the state government-sponsored bill.
Justice Abdullahi Muhammad-Liman of the Kano trial court issued a verdict declaring that all measures taken by the state government after the Kano Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024 was passed were void.
In accordance with the Kano Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, I hereby declare all actions and steps taken by the respondents (Kano State House of Assembly and others) to be void and to be set aside.

The judge instructed all parties to preserve the status quo, stating that “this order does not affect the validity of the law.”

The State House of Assembly and others appealed to the Appeal Court because they disagreed with the lower court.
The trial court’s decision to provide a status quo injunction against the Emirate bill’s passing was overturned by the Appeal Court in January 2025, and a new trial of the case was mandated.
Additionally, the Appeal Court ruled that the trial court lacked the authority to consider the case.
After that, the parties filed an appeal with the Supreme Court for final redress, and Babba-Dan’agundi applied to the Appeal Court for an injunction that would prevent the respondents from implementing the Appeal Court’s ruling until the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The Appeal Court’s Opinion
An application for an injunction awaiting appeal at the Supreme Court can only be granted if the applicant has disclosed “special circumstances” that merit such an order, Justice Okong Abang acknowledged in his ruling on the application on Friday.

According to him, the Appeal Court was convinced that Babba-Dan’agundi, the petitioner, had a legitimate and debatable appeal against the Supreme Court’s verdict overturning the lower court.
He went on to say that the applicant has a right that should be upheld until his appeal is heard by the Supreme Court.
The judge decided that granting the application would serve justice overall.

The following is what the judge ordered:

In order to prevent the respondents (Kano State House of Assembly, Kano State Government, etc.) from enforcing the court’s decision in Appeal No. CA/KN/126/2024 – KANO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY & ANOR VS ALHAJI AMINU BABBA-DAN’AGUNDI & OTHERS delivered on 10/1/2025, either by themselves, their agents, privies, servants, or personal representatives, until the applicant’s appeal is heard and decided by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on 24/1/2025.

Additionally, he directed the parties to “maintain the status quo ante bellum,” or the state that prevailed prior to the legal conflict, as well as the trial court and the sheriff, as was the case prior to the trial court’s ruling in Suit No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 – ALHAJI AMINU BABBA-DAN’AGUNDI V KANO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY & 7 OTHERS, which was delivered on June 13, 2024. This order is pending the hearing and resolution of the applicant’s appeal against the court’s ruling in Appeal No. CA/KN/126/2024.

The Appeal Court additionally ruled that if the order should not have been issued, the applicant must submit an undertaking within 48 hours to reimburse the respondents for damages.

Things You Need to Know
One of the main organizations actively contributing to the socioeconomic advancement of their various jurisdictions is the Emirate Council system.

On May 23, 2024, the Kano State House of Assembly disbanded the state’s four recently established emirate councils.

On May 23, 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reappointed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and deposed Aminu Ado-Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, after he had returned to office.

On Friday, Okuibom Ibibio III’s president general, Nteyin Solomon Etuk, presented him with the title in the State House in Abuja.
The ceremony was attended by a delegation of 104 people, led by Governor Umo Eno. Senator Godswill Akpabio and his wife Ekaette, as well as parliamentarians, religious leaders, past ministers, and members from women’s and youth organizations, made up the delegation.

President Tinubu thanked everyone for the honor, saying, “I accept all the honors and the conferment.” I’m one of you. I remember being an auditor at Mobil while I was living in Eket. We are all relatives and friends to a state that has experienced fast development.

The President emphasized that for Nigeria to advance, its leaders must put the country’s development ahead of their political connections.

After praising Akwa Ibom’s progress, he declared, “I recently signed the 2025 budget. That economic uncertainty is waning and optimism is growing makes me happy. We appreciate your ongoing assistance. For the country to be built, we must cooperate. You are all an excellent example of society.

As a visionary leader whose governance should serve as a model, Tinubu further praised Governor Eno for his selfless leadership and commitment to the people.

“The governor’s worries over a state visit and the deep-sea port have been heard. You have an excellent governor who loves his people and is afraid of God. I keep an eye on changes and watch the state’s Arise initiative.

Senate President Akpabio responded by congratulating Eno on promoting harmony and unity in the state and promising Tinubu that Akwa Ibom would always back his government.
