Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao has responded to criticism from movie critic Tolu Fagbure, who questioned her acting talent and said she had no business taking movies to the cinema.
Fagbure made the remarks during an interview on Agbaletu while giving his assessment of Ajao’s acting career.
When asked about the actress, Fagbure referred to her movie Ajakaju and argued that she should not be taking such productions to the cinema.
He also compared Ajao with actor Odunlade Adekola, saying both belonged to the same category.
Fagbure then questioned whether Ajao’s performances amounted to acting, arguing that her appearance was more noticeable than her acting ability.
He described her as having a “fine face” but criticised what he called her “plastic delivery.” He further said he did not believe she possessed sufficient acting talent or had developed it into professional skill.

The interviewer subsequently asked whether the assessment was too harsh.
Fagbure responded that his remarks were simply his opinion and did not represent an absolute judgment.
“That’s my opinion. My opinion is not sacrosanct; my opinion is not the end,” he said.
Ajao later responded to the critic through X.
She questioned the suggestion that her appearance was the only thing supporting her career.
“Ahhh, so my fine face is the only thing carrying me? After all these years?” she wrote.
The actress then said she would continue focusing on her work, personal growth and relationship with her audience.
“I will just keep doing what I know how to do: work, grow and let the audience decide,” she stated.
Ajao added that while people were free to express their opinions, careers were built through persistence and continued work.
“After all, opinions are free, but careers are built,” she wrote.
She also made it clear that criticism over her acting or the outcome of her films in cinemas would not persuade her to leave the industry.
“Cinema or no cinema, I’m not stopping anytime soon. Ire oo,” she added.
Ajao’s response has generated discussion among Nollywood followers, with the exchange highlighting the different perspectives actors and critics can have regarding acting performances.
While Fagbure has maintained that his assessment represents his personal opinion, Ajao has indicated that she intends to continue working and improving regardless of criticism directed at her acting career.
