The Edo State Police Command has arrested three persons following the death of a senior lecturer with Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, in a hotel room.
Uwuigbe reportedly died at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, on Sunday, October 5, 2026, after allegedly meeting a 21-year-old commercial sex worker.
The woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob, was reportedly with the lecturer in the hotel before he allegedly asked her to step out and purchase water.
According to information provided by the police, Jacob returned to the room and discovered Uwuigbe lying motionless on the bed.
The incident was reported to the police at approximately 8pm, leading to the arrest of three individuals as detectives commenced investigations.
The Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the development, saying those arrested included the hotel owner, the manager and Jacob.
She said the command received information concerning the lecturer’s death after he had lodged at the hotel and allegedly engaged the services of the young woman.
