Suspected hoodlums have attacked supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yankara town, Katsina State, leaving several people injured and a campaign vehicle burnt ahead of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s rally in Faskari Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Saturday, hours before the governor’s political rally, when the attackers reportedly blocked a major road used by the campaign convoy, causing panic among residents and disrupting movement in the area.
According to Channels Television, the Caucus Chairman of the Musa Adamu Network (MAN), Alhaji Nura Sule Yandaki, said he was among those caught up in the violence while travelling to the rally with 11 members of his team.
Yandaki explained that the trouble began when members of an Islamic group conducting a Maulud procession crossed the area. He alleged that hoodlums took advantage of the situation to attack vehicles conveying APC supporters.
A vehicle belonging to the Musa Adamu Network was reportedly set ablaze during the incident.
A witness also claimed that two APC supporters sustained fatal injuries. However, the allegation had not been independently verified as of Saturday night, while the police had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of 9:10 p.m.
Musa Adamu Network Condemns Attack
The Secretary of the Musa Adamu Network, Shamsuddeen Sani Lema, condemned the attack, describing the violence as unacceptable.
Lema called on security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure they face prosecution.
He stressed that political activities should be conducted without violence, threats or intimidation, warning that attacks on supporters could undermine peaceful political participation.
The organisation also urged the justice system to strengthen measures aimed at preventing similar incidents across the country.
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of political supporters during campaign activities, particularly as political groups mobilise ahead of public rallies.
Authorities are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide further details on the reported casualties and the destruction of property.
