Ex-Super Eagles striker Anichebe in talks to buy English club Bromley

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe, is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire English League One club Bromley, in what could mark his first major investment in football club ownership.

According to talkSPORT on Wednesday, the 38-year-old is leading a wealthy African group of investors negotiating with Bromley’s owner, Robin Stanton-Gleaves, over a possible takeover.

The discussions are said to be progressing, with both parties working towards reaching an agreement.

The proposed acquisition comes at a challenging period for Bromley, who are struggling in their first season in League One following successive promotions from the National League in 2024 and League Two last season.

The club’s recent run of results has also raised concerns about its ability to retain its League One status.

Anichebe’s proposed takeover could provide fresh investment and a new direction as the South London club seeks to improve its position.

The former Everton striker has developed an interest in sports investment since retiring from professional football in 2018.

He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment company with interests in sports, education, healthcare and infrastructure in the United Kingdom.

Anichebe was also recently linked to a proposed £20m leisure development project in Liverpool.

His interest in Bromley follows an earlier attempt to acquire non-league club Gateshead last year, although the proposed deal did not materialise.

During his playing career, Anichebe featured in the Premier League, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists.

At international level, he made 11 appearances for Nigeria’s senior national team, scoring once.

His only goal for the Super Eagles came in a 3-0 friendly victory over Kenya in 2011.

He was also part of Nigeria’s Under-23 team that won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, scoring against Japan during the tournament.

If completed, the Bromley acquisition would represent a significant step in Anichebe’s transition from professional football to club ownership and sports investment.
