The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs cleverly concealed in imported furniture, specifically sofas, and women’s headgears.
In a statement shared via X on Sunday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, described the find as one of the recent discoveries by NDLEA operatives.
He released videos capturing the moment of the discoveries.
Footage shows officers carefully unpacking large cardboard crates containing sofas. After cutting through the outer packaging and internal foam and padding, operatives recovered multiple sealed packages of suspected narcotics hidden within the furniture.
In a related operation, officers examined decorative women’s headgears. Cutting open the fabric and linings revealed further packages of illicit substances carefully stitched or concealed inside the traditional head wraps.
One of the videos displays rows of vacuum-sealed bags containing dried plant material laid out on a table after recovery.

“One of the recent discoveries by @ndlea_nigeria is the concealment of large consignment of illicit drugs in imported furniture (sofas) and women head gears. Just take a look at the moment of discovery captured in the attached videos,” Babafemi wrote.
This latest seizure forms part of NDLEA’s sustained campaign against increasingly sophisticated drug trafficking networks that exploit everyday consumer goods and personal items to smuggle narcotics into and out of Nigeria.
Over the years, the agency has repeatedly uncovered similar concealment methods involving furniture components, headgears, shoes, electrical appliances and other ordinary imports and exports at seaports, airports and courier facilities.
The methods underscore the persistent creativity of cartels seeking to evade detection.
