Sam Amadi, the former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu and the Presidency over the alleged fictitious Presidential Economic Advisory Council affair.
In a Thursday post on X, Amadi questioned how a non-existent government institution purportedly worked without detection within the Presidency.
He said that Presidency officials should have inquired about the agency’s existence, accusing the administration of a lack of awareness.
“So, no one in the presidency could say, ‘Wait a minute, when did we create this agency?'” Tinubu is the epitome of incompetence. Amadi remarked that many so-called technocrats and conceited academicians believe he should be reelected.
His remarks came after Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, denied Adeyemi Adeniyi Matthew’s assertions that he had been named Director-General of a Presidential Economic Advisory Council.
The Presidency branded the council as a fictional body, and Adeyemi as an impostor facing criminal charges for forgery, impersonation, and acquiring by false pretense.
According to the Presidency, security investigations revealed that Adeyemi forged appointment documents, misrepresented himself as a government appointee, operated multiple bank accounts linked to fictitious agencies, and fraudulently opened a Central Bank of Nigeria account without receiving any government funds.
The Presidency also requested lawmakers and members of the public to avoid from spreading Adeyemi’s statements, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
