The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Africa CDC, has called on the United States to lift travel restrictions on Uganda, saying the country has contained its Ebola outbreak.
Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya, speaking at the African Union health summit in Ghana, said Uganda has not reported a new Ebola case in three weeks and discharged its last patient earlier this month. He warned against penalising countries for being transparent about disease outbreaks.
As the outbreak spread across the region, the US has recently tightened travel restrictions on Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.

Kaseya cautioned that the epidemic in the DRC is worsening rapidly, with more than 2,300 confirmed cases and over 900 deaths since May, while opposing travel bans.
Africa CDC says it needs nearly 1.4 billion dollars to contain the outbreak, warning that without urgent international funding and stronger disease surveillance, the crisis could become the worst Ebola outbreak on record.
