Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stressed that appointments in his administration are guided by excellence, competence, and integrity and not ethnic background.
The governor spoke at a reception organised by Urhobo and Isoko elites in Lagos on Saturday in honour of his Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Samuel Egube, for his contributions to governance and public service.
He said Egube’s appointment and steady rise in government was “earned by professionalism, sound judgment and a proven capacity to deliver results” and that his administration does not consider ethnicity in the assignment of public responsibilities.
We don’t ask where the excellence comes from. What counts is the capacity to do the job well and serve the people faithfully.”
The governor described Egube as a cerebral, competent and dependable public servant who has distinguished himself in the private and public sectors.
Sanwo-Olu said Egube exhibited leadership qualities as the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget where he pioneered people-centric budgeting and enhanced performance-driven governance.

The governor added that Egube has continued to provide effective coordination of the Governor’s Office as Deputy Chief of Staff and has served as a trusted adviser.
Sanwo-Olu also said that his trust in Egube was based on over 20 years of friendship and professional relationship during which he has shown integrity, loyalty and exceptional competence.
He said while the occasion celebrated one of the finest sons of the Urhobo nation, it also re-echoed that excellence knew no ethnic and regional identity.
Egube thanked the Urhobo and Isoko elites for the recognition, saying the honour was an encouragement to remain committed to excellence in public service.
He encouraged young Nigerians to pursue success through discipline, resilience, integrity and hard work, no matter their background.
Egube’s resilience, dedication and legacy were lauded by the Convener of the Urhobo and Isoko Elites in Lagos, Olorogun Nan Okiro, who said he represented his people with honour and distinction.
The Chairman of the occasion, Olorogun Moses-Taiga, described the celebrant as a symbol of excellence, professionalism and integrity, saying that his career in the financial sector and public service reflected discipline, trust and exemplary leadership.
Government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, family members and associates, including the Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, attended the event. Some of the highlights included cultural performances, musical entertainment, presentation of a commemorative plaque, Leadership Excellence Award and unveiling of a commemorative brochure.
