The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has ordered a shoot-on-sight order for anyone carrying illegal firearms across the country.
Disu gave the directive at a stakeholders meeting held at the Government House in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Friday
He said, “President Bola Tinubu had directed that insecurity in Benue must come to an end, adding that only authorised security personnel were permitted to bear firearms.
“The days of passive policing are over,” he added.

“You cannot just walk around with arms as though there is no law and order in this country. No exceptions.
“We’ve told them what to do. We have an order 237 force. Officers have been informed that they do not have to wait for any superior order. They know where to put their guns.
We are sick of losing our men. We are tired of police officers, soldiers and other members of the security agencies dying anyhow.
“They’ve got orders to shoot on sight. They have been trained to do what is needed. “But we will not succeed without the cooperation of all of you,” the IGP said.
