Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following Adeleke’s victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The visit took place on Sunday, August 16, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the election.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.
That gave Adeleke a winning margin of more than 66,000 votes.
The governor won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11.
But it was Obasanjo’s unexpected visit that quickly caught public attention.
The former president visited Adeleke at his residence to congratulate him on his re-election.
And in a moment that has attracted attention online, a trending video from the meeting shows Obasanjo and Adeleke sharing a light-hearted moment and dancing together.
The unusual scene has generated reactions because of Obasanjo’s prominent place in Nigerian politics and the significance of Adeleke’s victory.
Adeleke has now secured a second consecutive governorship victory in Osun State, after first winning the governorship election in 2022.
