The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it will base its 2027 presidential campaign on the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and not personal attacks on political opponents.
The Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulazeez Yari disclosed this in Gusau, Zamfara State after a closed-door meeting with the Governor, Dauda Lawal and traditional rulers in the state on Wednesday.
Yari said the campaign would be used to tell Nigerians what the Tinubu administration has done and what it intends to do if given another term.
The campaign would be based on issues and the record of the government, rather than promises or attacking individuals, he said.
He said that Nigeria had passed through difficult periods that made some people to doubt if the country would remain united but Nigerians had continued to protect the unity of the nation.
“Nigeria is a great nation. We have seen so many things, from June 12 and others, some said Nigeria will not continue as a country. That’s where we are. Nigerians continue to make this country remain one united country,” Yari said.
It was said that the former governor of Zamfara State said Tinubu is committed to the development of the country and has shown his love for Nigeria.
“Tinubu is above any other human being. “He is for Nigerians, he is a leader that loves this country without any fear of contradiction,” Yari said.
He said the 2027 campaign would not be about new promises, but about showing Nigerians what the APC-led administration had done since they came on board.
“My first official engagement as campaign council director-general was with traditional rulers because of their proximity to the people,” he said.
“While traditional rulers are not politicians, they have a very important role to play in society and their support would be valuable to the campaign,” he said.
He said their support and blessings were needed as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State said the meeting was to officially introduce Yari to the traditional rulers following his appointment as the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
According to the governor, Yari is a son of the state and it was important for him to get the support of the traditional leaders before the campaign.
“It is important to us to hand him over to them, to seek for their support. That’s what the meeting is for,” Lawal said.
The governor also assured the campaign council that the people of Zamfara State would give full support to Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
