President Bola Tinubu has concluded a four-day spiritual visit to Saudi Arabia, revealing that he prayed for wisdom, resilience and the strength to continue serving Nigerians.
The President performed the lesser Islamic pilgrimage, Umrah, at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, where he also prayed for peace, unity and prosperity in Nigeria.
Tinubu expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for granting him and members of his delegation the rare opportunity to enter the Holy Kaaba.
In a statement on Monday, the President described the experience as a historic privilege that reflected the longstanding religious and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
He said he specifically asked Allah for the wisdom and resilience required to discharge his responsibilities as Nigeria’s leader, expressing confidence that his prayers had been answered.
According to the President, his visit was also an opportunity to reflect on the responsibility that comes with political power. Citing a verse from the Quran, he noted that authority ultimately belongs to Allah and should be exercised with humility and a commitment to public service.
Tinubu was accompanied into the sacred structure by Sheikh Dahlulah Muthawal of Masjid al-Haram, alongside members of his delegation, including ministers, state governors and prominent business leaders.
The delegation included Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate; and governors from Borno, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Yobe and Kwara states. BUA Group Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu and Oando Plc Chief Executive Officer Wale Tinubu were also among those who accompanied him.
Speaking about Nigeria’s economic outlook, the President maintained that the country’s recovery was progressing, describing its economic foundations as solid. He also emphasised the need for sustained investment in young people to secure the nation’s future.
Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to national development, saying his administration would continue pursuing policies aimed at promoting prosperity and improving the country.
The visit comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum. Tinubu had earlier launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24.
During his stay in Makkah, members of his delegation also offered prayers for Nigeria’s peace, a peaceful electoral process and the country’s continued development.
The President’s spiritual visit culminated on Monday following the completion of his Umrah rites and engagements with members of the Nigerian delegation.
