Hon. Chief Dr. Bishop Philip Agbese, popularly known as Okanga, is widely recognised for attracting constituency projects, implementing empowerment programmes, sponsoring legislation and carrying out oversight responsibilities. Supporters also point to his efforts in facilitating employment opportunities for people in Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.
Despite serving his first term in the House of Representatives, Agbese has sought to secure employment opportunities for constituents by engaging government officials, lawmakers, ministries, departments, agencies, and security institutions.
According to his supporters, he has consistently appealed to relevant authorities to allocate employment slots to qualified sons and daughters of Enone, describing job creation as an important aspect of his representation.
Many of the appointments he is said to have facilitated have not been publicly announced, as he prefers to keep beneficiaries out of the spotlight.
Supporters say this approach reflects his belief that employment should restore dignity to beneficiaries rather than serve as a political publicity tool. They also argue that avoiding publicity prevents discouragement among other qualified applicants who are still seeking opportunities.
Agbese’s supporters further maintain that he advocates equal access to employment opportunities, regardless of political affiliation, financial status or personal connections, and believes recruitment should be based on merit.
They acknowledge that Nigeria’s employment system faces challenges, including allegations of favouritism and limited opportunities, but argue that Agbese has continued to pursue available openings for his constituents within the limits of his office.
Supporters also note that, like every public office holder, Agbese remains open to constructive criticism, which they say is necessary for accountability and improved performance.
As discussions ahead of the next general election begin, some supporters believe he should be given another term to continue his legislative work, constituency projects and employment facilitation efforts.
They argue that his record in constituency development, legislative representation, empowerment programmes and job facilitation reflects his commitment to serving the people of Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.
